A popularity with nuances

Princess Elionor and Infanta Sofia have always been beloved figures within the monarchical scene. For many, they are the most endearing members of royalty today. However, not everyone shares this opinion, and at the Club Náutico de Mallorca they do not find the same affection as in other places. The coldness between the young women and the members of the institution is palpable in each visit.

A decisive summer for Elionor

This year is especially important for Elionor, since upon reaching the age of majority, she can make her own decisions for the first time. Among her plans, she expressed to her parents the intention of traveling with her friends, something to which the kings have agreed with one condition: her presence in Mallorca is unavoidable. Starting July 27, Elionor must be in Marivent, although she can manage the rest of her summer as she prefers.

Eleonor’s disinterest in Mallorca

Princess Elionor does not enjoy her visits to Palma de Mallorca. She sees them as institutional obligations that she must reluctantly fulfil. She patiently endures the official agenda that includes posing in emblematic places on the island to promote tourism and accompanying her parents and her grandmother, Queen Sofia, at public events.

In particular, Elionor feels uncomfortable at the Yacht Club, despite the regular attendance of her father, King Felipe VI, and his occasional presence there. She has always had the support of her mother, Queen Letizia, in this regard.

Different interests and broken traditions

Both Elionor and Sofia have particular tastes such as soccer and volleyball, and they enjoy horseback riding in the Zarzuela. However, they do not share hobbies such as hunting or sailing, which are the sports preferred by their grandfather and father. While King Felipe VI continues to actively participate in regattas, his daughters have not inherited that passion. This disinterest is attributed to the influence of Queen Letizia, who, according to Vanitatis, has decided to protect the public image of her daughters by limiting her exposure to certain events.

Impact on the Nautical Club

This separation of the royal family from the Yacht Club has generated discontent among influential members of the institution. They are convinced that Queen Letizia breaks a family tradition that has lasted for years. Sailing, valued by previous generations, has lost relevance for Elionor and Sofia, a gesture perceived as a snub by the club.
