A call to fare unification
The municipal officials of Igualada, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Vilafranca del Penedès and El Vendrell have asked the Generalitat to adopt a unique rate for public transport to its vegueria. Juan Luis Ruiz, Francisco Romero, Marc Castells and Kenneth Martínez emphasized that the current model fragmes mobility and limits competition in the region.
Parliamentary support and futuristic actions
Recently, Parliament unanimously supported a motion driven by Together, aimed at improving mobility in the Penedès. The mayors expressed their gratitude for the consensus and urged the Government to establish a clear action plan with economic terms and resources.
A historical opportunity
In a meeting held on February 19 in Vilafranca, Romero emphasized the importance of capitalizing on this political moment to ensure that the needs of the territory are quickly and effectively attended.
The details of the motion
Originally, the proposal of Together included the creation of a new fare zone for the Penedès and the establishment of a specific metropolitan transport authority for the region. However, these points were eliminated during negotiations with other groups, as it is considered that unification can be performed with the current instruments of the ATM of Barcelona and Tarragona.
Claims for railway improvements
The mayors have expressed concern about the need to improve railway connectivity between the Penedès, Barcelona and Tarragona. This question is linked to the Declaration of Vilafranca, which claims the construction of the Railway Transversal Axis, a line that will facilitate the traffic of passengers and goods.
A strategic project
The creation of this infrastructure would not only decongest the current lines, but would also significantly improve intercity mobility.
Synergies between municipalities
The mayors emphasized the importance of establishing collaborations between the different municipalities of the Penedès vegueria. In this sense, the Vinseum, with its extensive exhibition facilities, is positioned as a pillar in promoting wine culture, becoming a key asset for the economic and cultural growth of the region.
A reference museums
With recognitions such as the Best Wine Museum in Europe 2024, Vinseum is being shaped as a Museum of National Interest that attracts attention both nationally and internationally.
