by PREMIUM.CAT

The Mortgage Affected Platform occupies the Can Ricard building

Under the slogans of ‘homeless people and houses without people’, the Platform for Mortgage Affected Persons has occupied the reception of the Can Ricard building, where the Social Services of the Sant Feliu Town Council are located. With posters hanging on the walls, the platform expresses its complaints against the practices of the Social Services.

Demand for changes in municipal Social Services

The Mortgage Affected Platform, with the support of Casal Blanca Bardiera and the Anti-Racist and Anti-Fascist Platform, demands a change in the operation of municipal Social Services to guarantee people’s rights. Through this protest action, they ask that the Sant Feliu City Council recognize the platform as a valid interlocutor and establish monthly work meetings to address housing problems in the city.

Complaints of ‘racist’ dynamics in the Social Services

The PAH has denounced the ‘racist’ dynamics of the Sant Feliu Social Services in a manifesto entitled ‘Anti Social Services’. Through this manifesto, the platform demands that the City Council sign a collaboration agreement with the PAH to recognize it as a valid interlocutor. In addition, they call for changes in the operation of Social Services to ensure fair and non-discriminatory treatment of people who need help with housing and other basic needs.

Meetings with the councilors of Housing and Social Services

Before the protest action, the PAH requested a meeting with Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Housing, and Iván Martín, Councilor for Social Services. During the meeting, the platform expressed its demand for changes in the municipal Social Services and the need to recognize the PAH as a valid interlocutor. The councilors agreed to set up a meeting with the Mortgage Affected Platform to address their demands.

The fight for housing in Sant Feliu

The PAH has been working for months and even years to achieve changes in housing policies in Sant Feliu. They have asked for meetings, an emergency social care service and the recognition of the PAH as a valid interlocutor. Despite this, they regret the lack of response on the part of the City Council and their feeling of ignorance on the part of the new government.

Commitment to changes in Social Services

After the protest in Can Ricard, Laura Bonilla, coordinator of the Social Services area, undertook to bring together the Housing and Social Services councilors with the Mortgage Affected Platform. This meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 3 and aims to establish specific actions to improve Social Services and respond to the demands of the platform.

The fight continues

The Mortgage Affected Platform has temporarily left the Can Ricard building, but maintains its determination to continue with its protest actions until real changes occur in Sant Feliu’s Social Services.
