The distance grows between Newcastle and Raphinha

Newcastle United seem to have almost completely distanced themselves from the potential signing of Raphinha Dias. Although this player was on Mohammed Bin Salmán’s priority list, the differences with FC Barcelona and the lack of interest from the footballer himself have made the British club begin to leave him aside. Firstly, the English entity is not willing to pay the 60 million euros that Joan Laporta and Deco have set to negotiate his departure.

Uncertainty over Raphinha’s value

Although Hans-Dieter Flick has stated that Raphinha is not a fundamental piece in the team, especially after the imminent signing of Nico Williams, Newcastle are not interested in giving the Brazilian away. At the Camp Nou, they are reluctant to accept a figure lower than what they once paid for his signing. Therefore, if the ‘Magpies’ do not present the required amount, it is unlikely that his transfer will materialize.

Raphinha’s decision

Things are pretty clear for Raphinha. At St. James’ Park they have no plans to make a bid for him and, furthermore, the 27-year-old winger has not shown much enthusiasm about joining a team that will not compete in the Champions League next season. He prefers to fulfill his contract and fight for a place in the team, although he would evaluate any attractive offer that could come to him from a top-level club.

Alternatives to Eddie Howe

Coach Eddie Howe has already begun to explore other options to reinforce his team’s offensive line, and surprisingly has turned his attention to another FC Barcelona figure, who also does not seem to have a clear future under Flick’s direction. This is Ferran Torres, in whom Newcastle had previously shown interest and who is now once again being considered for his possible signing.

Possible offer from Newcastle

Ferran’s cost would be considerably less than Raphinha’s, with Bin Salmán willing to submit a bid of €30m in the hope that a deal can be reached quickly and without complications.

Barça will play their own game

However, FC Barcelona will try to get more money for Torres’ loan, given that the club paid almost double for his transfer from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, at the request of coach Xavi Hernández. In addition, Newcastle will have to convince Ferran, who has expressed his desire to remain in Spain. Laporta and Deco are managing multiple cases in their exit operation.
