Reactions to Pedro Sánchez’s Time of Reflection
Most of the candidates for the 12-M show misgivings about the time for reflection that Pedro Sánchez has taken after the open investigation against his wife for a complaint by Manos Limpias. In the debate between Rac1 and La Vanguardia, only the socialist Salvador Illa has defended it, considering it an act of sincerity in an unprecedented context.
Reactions of the Candidates
Salvador Illa has asked for a collective reflection on the limits of politics, while other candidates such as Josep Rull, Pere Aragonés and Jéssica Albiach show empathy with Sánchez but remember that the attacks of the far right are not new. Instead, Alejandro Fernández, Ignacio Garriga, Laia Estrada and Carlos Carrizosa see the movement as strange.
Reviews and Positions
Alejandro Fernández assures that Sánchez’s move has affected Salvador Illa’s campaign in Catalonia, while Ignacio Garriga considers the time for reflection as a stage and urges Sánchez to resign. Carlos Carrizosa accuses Sánchez of cowardice and Laia Estrada criticizes Sánchez’s attitude, reminding him that Manos Limpias was not born yesterday.
Empathy and Criticism
On the other hand, the ERC candidates, Pere Aragonès; the number 3 of Junts per Barcelona, Josep Rull, and the candidate of Commons Sumar, Jéssica Albiach, show empathy with Sánchez, although they do not spare criticism. Aragonès understands Sánchez from a personal point of view, but reminds him that he must always stand up to the extreme right.
Position of the Socialist Candidate
The socialist candidate insists that politics must be able to hire the different approaches with respect to the opponent, considering the attacks as an attempt to conquer power at any price.
