A morning of hope and storm

With fifty friends, we are in the heart of the Pyrenees, at an altitude of 2,300 meters, immersed in an environment that evokes both respect and restlessness. Today, a long walk awaits us, but a July storm forces us to be patient as we watch the lightning from the shelter.

Debate between friends: conscious or complicit?

The topic of the ecological crisis has inevitably come up during our route, and with the necessary pause, I decide to stimulate the conversation with a controversial question.

Guilt at the time of decisions

Do you feel like you adopt a guilty attitude when you drive? The collective answer is a resounding ‘no’. Enric, with determination, defends his position with the argument that prohibitions are the only effective solution. According to him, it is the requirement of the European Union that has forced the companies to make the leap towards electric vehicles.

Despite this consensus, I know that my colleagues share a love for the environment. The natural scenery that surrounds us makes them aware of their responsibility; each of us, without exception, takes out our trash.

Climate migration and shared responsibility

More courageously than ever, I raise a deeper question: How will climate emigration affect future generations? Here the atmosphere changes radically and the debate gets out of control. Marc reflects on the possibility that it is we ourselves who are forced to migrate north, while Víctor emphasizes his fortune to be able to work on projects that promote change.

Local actions with global impact

Jordi, perhaps the most critical among us, reminds us that he talks little but acts a lot, with energy contracts with cooperatives that favor local commerce. Enric’s outrage at the social draining of energy through large energy companies only adds more fire to the conversation.

L’Oriol, one of the most rested of the group, details with passion how he has participated in a consumer cooperative in Poble Sec, increasing its number of members to two hundred. Extending the debate, Jordi does not hesitate to affirm that his political orientation will be included in the next elections geographically to ecological demands.

What role do digital networks play?

As the debate progresses, I realize the complexity that digital networks bring to our dialogue. I find myself connected to multiple platforms – Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram and others – where, despite the existence of discussion, I often feel that the noise masks the meaningful debate we need.

Towards a better future?

I hope that a new digital network, designed with a deeper perspective by mathematicians and sociologists, can revitalize the dialogue and generate innovative ideas to face the environmental crisis.

Path to nature

With the storm gone, we load our backpacks, ready to continue. As I look at the majestic peaks emerging from the mist, I feel our differences about the environment become lighter in the company of cross-sighted friends. Despite our contradictions, I adhere to the idea that our altruism towards nature is what unites us.
