An analysis of the impact of the municipal government
Jaume Collboni’s term as mayor of Barcelona has reached his equator, and his assessment is optimistic. According to the mayor, the city has undergone significant improvements in key areas such as security, cleaning and housing, which were prominent concerns two years ago.
Advancement in the Municipal Agenda
From the City Hall of the City Council, Collboni emphasized that, without falling into excessive triumphalism, 85% of the government action plan is underway or has already been completed. This includes 29% of shares that have already taken place and 56% are in the process of execution.
Housing: A sustainable commitment
One of the most important decisions has been the ban on tourist flats from November 2028, as well as the active search for land to build social housing. Collboni states that these measures will not only benefit the current term, they will also have a long -term positive impact.
Happy Objectives
The City Council aspires to build a thousand new homes each year, with a total of 5,000 projects underway. This initiative is vital to dealing with the housing crisis that affects many citizens.
Improvements in public safety
Collboni has celebrated the decrease in crimes by 5% during the last year, with a reduction of 15% in Ciutat Vella during the first semester of 2025. These results are attributed to the increase in the staff of the Guàrdia Urbana, which currently has 4,400 agents, and to the best coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra.
Pending reforms for the second half of the term
There are still 15% of the actions scheduled for the Government, including important reforms such as the new Civic Regulations and the Central Park of Vallcarca. The mayor has announced that the works of the first interior of the island of the term will begin soon.
A new government structure
This stage of the term has also coincided with a restructuring of the municipal card. Collboni has created a new mayor’s office under the direction of Raquel Gil and incorporated the housing area within the economy portfolio, led by Jordi Valls.
Key negotiations
The PSC government is currently in negotiations with Together to resolve the reserve issue of 30% for protected housing, a topic that is fundamental to the mayor’s housing strategy.
Looking to the future
With a clear medium and long term vision, the Collboni team seeks to continue transforming Barcelona into a more habitable and secure city, with a firm commitment to the sustainability and well -being of its citizens.
