Council Reforms and Requirements
The Council’s Heritage Committee has decided to suspend the planned actions at the New Factory and has required the property to carry out a detailed review of the building’s consolidation project. The requirements include a more detailed description of the planned interventions in the demolition project of unstable elements of the building, with the inclusion of indications about the elements that must be removed.
In addition, a precise description of the elements that will replace the existing ones of the roof slab is required, as well as another roof proposal that does not alter the original configuration of the building. It has also been reiterated the measure agreed during the last legislature to adopt measures to secure unstable elements to prevent the collapse of the building and, if necessary, to signal dangerous spaces on the public road.
Authorizations and Demands
The proposal also includes authorization to close the windows and shore up the building to protect it. It should be remembered that the demand for forced expropriation continues in the courts, where the property claims 4.5 million euros from the City Council, even though municipal technicians have valued the property at 660,000 euros.
Reactions and Perspectives
One of the representatives of the property, Javier Oliver, has expressed his regret for the situation and expressed his concern regarding the intentions of the institutions. On the other hand, Més has remembered the importance of preserving this last factory building in Sóller, with the hope that it can be turned into a Textile Museum. The party has also expressed the wish that the promises materialize and the property be recovered, avoiding situations similar to those of the Torre Picada.
