A renewed vision of Easter
The Agenda 2025 of Catalonia Sacra incorporates a unique proposal that seeks to revitalize the tradition with an interpretation of the Easter speech, a work of the Mallorcan poet Blai Bonet. This time, the actor Toni Gomila, also originally from Mallorca, will take the reins of this work in two exclusive performances.
An artistic challenge
The challenge of interpreting the voice of such an emblematic poet is not less. Gomila expresses his admiration for Bonet and his attempt to represent his essence with authenticity. “I have sought to approach his figure with respect, uniting various aspects that reflect his rich personality: he is a genius, full of wisdom and depth, but at the same time accessible and simple.”
The birth of a classic
The opening speech, created in 1980 by the rector Mn. Jaume Serra, not only is a narrative of the passion of Jesus Christ, but it is a work that fuses tradition with a contemporary look. Bonet, as a former member, knew how to translate the biblical message into a narrative that captivates both popular and academic readers.
The essence of the message
With a structure that maintains fidelity to the biblical text, Bonet achieved a balance between popular access and intellectual depth. His ability to update the original message causes his work to resonate today.
A dialogue with the present
Gomila emphasizes how his interpretation seeks to make the contemporary audience connect with the last days of Jesus. “With a clear and accessible explanation, Bonet gets the meaning of each act to become relevant to us today.”
A deep reflection
Its meticulous analysis, ranging from etymology to everyday experience, offers a poetic view on human nature. Bonet dismantles the dogmatic structures to bring us to the essence of Jesus’ humanity, a message that, even for those who are skeptical, is attractive and relevant.
The personal impact of the work
For Toni Gomila, Bonet’s text encapsulates everything he appreciates about theater and poetry: using words as a vehicle for beauty and social cohesion. “It is a privilege to be able to share this work with the audience, regardless of age, and foster reflection and dialogue.”
