An inclusive vision for the future

The new head of the Sitges Heritage Consortium, Txema Romero, has begun its mandate with an ambitious proposal that seeks to reimagate the municipality’s museum experience. In an event held at the Maricel Museum, with the presence of prominent figures from the cultural and political world, Romero shared his intention to make museums more accessible and representative for the whole community.

Open new perspectives

Romero emphasized the richness of available collections and said that it is essential to explore new approaches to topics such as health, education and diversity. “It is essential that everyone can be reflected in our heritage,” he said, emphasizing the need to create a more inclusive story that can resonate with the current experiences and needs of society.

A key participatory process

One of Romero’s first initiatives is to organize a participatory process that involves the community in the definition of the new story of museums. This action seeks to gather opinions on the activities and exhibitions that could be implemented, in order to ensure that local voices are heard and valued.

Claiming the essence of the museum

During his presentation, Txema Romero referred to the importance of preserving the essence of museums while modernizing. He recalled the pioneering role of the Cau Ferrat Museum during the modernism period, acting as a space for innovation and creativity. This inheritance is what it wants to recover, experimenting with different artistic disciplines.

Sitges’ potential

Romero expressed his conviction that Sitges has immense potential for leading avant -garde cultural initiatives. ‘We want to be an artistic reference with a renewed perspective,’ he added, hinting at his intentions to carry out actions that inspire and connect with the current audience.

Looking to the future

Just a few days after taking office, Romero has already begun planning his future actions. Among the measures he has advanced is the call for a participatory process to evaluate both existing and future spaces, including the Can Llopis Romantic Museum, which has been closed for years.

The value of the cultural heritage

Finally, Txema Romero concluded that ‘Museums are not neutral spaces’. Its mission is to enrich the cultural discourse, integrating multiple narrative that allow the heritage to speak with relevance to the concerns of contemporary society. Thus, he hopes to involve both local and professional entities in the world, to position Sitges as one of the most important artistic poles in the world.
