The new head of the Sitges Heritage Consortium, Txema Romero, has begun its mandate with an ambitious proposal that seeks to reimagate the municipality’s museum experience. In an event held at the Maricel Museum, with the presence of prominent figures from the cultural and political world, Romero shared his intention to make museums more accessible and representative for the whole community.

Romero emphasized the richness of available collections and said that it is essential to explore new approaches to topics such as health, education and diversity. “It is essential that everyone can be reflected in our heritage,” he said, emphasizing the need to create a more inclusive story that can resonate with the current experiences and needs of society.

One of Romero’s first initiatives is to organize a participatory process that involves the community in the definition of the new story of museums. He recalled the pioneering role of the Cau Ferrat Museum during the modernism period, acting as a space for innovation and creativity. Just a few days after taking office, Romero has already begun planning his future actions. Among the measures he has advanced is the call for a participatory process to evaluate both existing and future spaces, including the Can Llopis Romantic Museum, which has been closed for years.
