A generational change to Easter
Tarragona Easter is prepared for a new era, marked by the recent transformation of its board of directors, a fact that promises to revitalize the religious traditions of the city. On November 11, a new Presidency Committee, consisting of four young people between the ages of 26 and 31, took over the post of the Associations of Easter Associations of Tarragona (AASTT).
New leadership with a fresh vision
This renewal is not only a change in the names, but a real need for generational relief within civic-religious entities. Iván Medina, President of the new Board, has been linked to the Christ of the Buen Amor since his childhood and has served as treasurer for the last four years. Together with him, Georgina Gual, Xavier Balcells and Raquel Moreno bring a new dynamic to the AASTT government, which now has 22 members representing various brotherhoods.
Objectives for a new age
Medina emphasizes the importance of updating the processes that define the activity of Easter, saying that “generational renewal is necessary” and that ‘technological changes require immediate adaptation’. Thus, they set out to take a step forward to integrate new technologies into their management.
A message adapted to current society
Members of the new board are aware that Easter cannot stay static. “We need to make the brotherhoods accessible and represent the whole society,” says Medina. In addition, communication through social networks is one of its priorities, with the intention of capturing the interest of young people through audiovisuals and other digital formats.
Easter with educational tool
Iván Medina emphasizes that the processions are not only religious events, but they offer an opportunity for catechesis and teaching of the gospel message to the community. “Easter is a way to bring the gospel to the street,” he says, emphasizing the importance of making religious traditions relevant to new generations.
Reactivation of solidarity and commitment
Another of the central axes of the new board is the reactivation of solidarity actions that had previously been a distinguishing feature of the brotherhoods. With the gaze on current social needs, the new direction seeks to foster generosity and community involvement.
Projects for a promising future
Among the most immediate projects is the creation of Easter spaces, a museumized space that allows to visualize the most representative elements of the festival. In addition, it is planned to establish a Easter route that, starting at the Bible Museum, connects with the various churches that house the mysteries.
To make it a reality, the AASTT will have the collaboration of the Bible Museum and the City Council of Tarragona, with the aim of including this route within the city’s tourist visits program. Thus, Easter will not only remain alive, but it will also become a cultural attraction for residents and visitors.
