A problematic space: the history of a parking lot
For more than a year and a half, the underground parking located on Béjar street, in the heart of the Sants neighborhood in Barcelona, has faced a deep crisis. Residents have described the situation as ‘unbearable’, with the place becoming a focus of crime and social disorder.
The occupation: a problem that grew over time
Chaos began approximately eighteen months ago, when a small group of people decided to use the stairs of the parking lot as a night shelter. In recent months, the situation intensified drastically, with the appearance of mattresses, furniture and garbage that hindered emergency exits.
Alarming consequences
In addition to unhealthy conditions, alarming incidents were recorded, including drug consumption and trafficking, prostitution activities and aggressions. The Mossos d’Esquadra have corroborated that the parking lot was a critical point for criminal activities, including arrests for serious crimes.
The outcome: a necessary eviction
Last Monday, the Núñez and Navarro real estate, together with the Urban Guard, carried out the eviction of the enclosure. The six people who still lived the place were identified, who abandoned without resistance. Subsequently, a cleaning team began to get rid of accumulated waste, marking the start of a new stage.

In response to the situation, the real estate company has decided to implement private surveillance 24 hours to ensure access control and prevent future problems. In addition, he promised to repair the locks and review the security systems.
