Significant investments in the sanitation system

During 2024, Aigües de Reus invested a total of 556,418 euros in the modernization of its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). These actions, which are expected to expand up to € 1,600,000 between 2024 and 2026, have the financial support of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), which is the authority in charge of managing the sanitation policies in Catalonia.

Highlights of 2024

The works carried out during 2024 have been varied and significant. First, the power supply to the WWTP has been improved, with a cost of 61,681 euros. In addition, the sludge filtration system has been updated, with an investment of 165,713 euros. Another important point has been the first renewal phase of the cogeneration plant, with an expense of 92,147 euros, focused on the replacement of elements to increase electricity production. We have also worked on the repair of secondary digestor, with the aim of improving its isolation and increasing biogas production, with a budget similar to that of improving filtration.

Perspectives per al 2025

For 2025, an investment of approximately 500,000 euros has been planned, which will also come from the ACA. Notable actions are expected to end the repair of secondary digestor and begin the second phase of improvement of the cogeneration plant, which will include the installation of a new biogas engine. These improvements are designed to make more energy self -sufficient, including a study to implement a co -management system that increases biogas production.

Commitment to maintenance and renewal

The continuous improvement of the WWTP is essential to ensure the effective operation of the Reus sanitation system. As councilor Daniel Rubio emphasizes, it is vital to ensure the maintenance and renewal of these facilities, which are key to the treatment of wastewater in the city. Collaboration with ACA to obtain the necessary funds is a fundamental aspect for the success of these actions.

Future of Sanitation Investments

In addition to current investments, the ACA has also programmed a project for 2026, which will include the improvement of the biological treatment of the WWTP with a budget of 2,230,500 euros. At the same time, the design of a new water regeneration station (Era) has been awarded to the sewage treatment plant, with a budget of more than 202,000 euros, which will allow to deal with up to 20,000 m³/day, with possibilities of future extension. This project will also include the construction of a raft to store regenerated water, managed by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat.
