Transformation in selective waste collection
The City Council of Reus has launched in advance in waste management with the inauguration of an emerging island of large capacity, located on Salvador Esprius Street. This new selective collection model, which will gradually replace the underground containers in various parts of the city, not only facilitates the separation of different types of waste, but also contributes to improving cleaning and urban aesthetics.
A well -planned and progressive change
The transition to these emerging islands is one of the actions included in the extension of the waste collection contract, which will be carried out throughout this year. The inauguration of this first island on Salvador Espriu Street will mark the beginning of a new system that promises to improve the efficiency and functionality of the service.
Schedules and logistics of collection
The collection schedules will be adjusted to those already established for other emerging islands, with scheduled operations from 19 to 23 hours. This ensures continuity in the service and facilitates the adaptation of users.
Community awareness campaign
To ensure a gentle transition, an awareness campaign has been implemented, which has had a dedicated team that interacted with neighbors and potential users for several days. A total of 250 people attended the Information Tent, where they were provided a selective collection kit with color bags and information material on the new system.
Visits to local shops
In addition, visits to more than 15 commercial establishments in the area have been made to communicate the news and identify large waste generators. Those who have been considered viable have been integrated into the door -to -door collection system, which will continue to be the option for the shops of the center.
Benefits of new emerging islands
The emerging islands have a remarkable capacity, with about 7,400 liters, much more than 3,600 liters of traditional containers. Its hydraulic technology allows more efficient emptying and eliminates problems associated with underground containers, such as the lack of separation and high maintenance costs.
Positive impact on the environment
This new infrastructure not only reduces smells and improves the cleaning of the streets, but also decreases noise and atmospheric pollution, thanks to the use of low impact electric vehicles. These emerging islands are pioneers in their type at the state level.
