A benchmark on and off the track
Ricky Rubio, the well-known basketball player, has once again proven that he is a reference not only on the playing courts, but also off them. In his presentation as the base of Barça, Ricky gave a lesson in sincerity and always spoke from the heart
During his 7:57 minute speech, Ricky broke out of his bubble and showed his authenticity. He answered all the journalists’ questions and shared his personal experience. This step forward is an example for many people, as Ricky is aware that no one is a superhero like Superman or Superwoman, and that asking for help is brave
An intimate presentation
The act of presenting Ricky as the base of Barça was intimate and escaped from the crowd. Only about 30 family, friends and club members attended, in addition to accredited journalists. The event was not televised or streamed, but it would have been important for speeches like Ricky’s to reach people and schools, so that the little ones have a point of reference
Overcoming injury and the importance of mental health
During his presentation, Ricky explained the reason why he had to leave basketball for a while. He revealed that he suffered from chronic stress and that his body became dysregulated. He emphasized the importance of talking about mental health and asking for help when needed. Ricky went through some tough times, but with the right help he was able to overcome them
Ricky also recalled the moment he left the national team rally and made the decision to take care of his mental health. He admitted that he was scared and in the dark, but he showed courage in making the right decision. This experience has made Ricky more aware of the importance of taking care of himself and enjoying basketball
The expected debut with Barça
The Barça fans are impatient to experience Ricky’s debut in the Blaugrana shirt. Although the defender is in no rush, everything is set for that to happen on Friday against Monaco at the Palau Blaugrana. There is also the possibility that their second game will be against Zaragoza on Sunday
