The birth of a cultural loop
In a historical decision, the City Council of Roda de Berà gave the green light to the twinning with Casasimarro, a small town in Conca with a rich cultural heritage and a population of approximately 3,200 inhabitants. This union not only symbolizes a formal gesture, but also recognizes the common roots that have united both communities for decades.
A story of migration and hope
The second half of the twentieth century witnessed an important migratory flow to Roda de Berà, where 94 people arrived from Casasimarro during the 60’s. With the dream of building a better life for their families, these people contributed not only labor but also a rich cultural diversity that has lasted over time.
Meetings marking the way
In the late 1980’s, the authorities of the two villages began talks to establish a formal loop, with visits by mayors such as Rafael Ciuró and José Antonio Fernández. Despite the good intentions, the twinning has not materialized so far, when Rosana Dorantes, a descendant of the migrant families, reactivated the conversations with the current mayor of Casasimarro, Oscar Pinar.
A protocol that unites
Both administrations, Roda de Berà and Casasimarro, have agreed to establish a twinning committee, chaired by both mayors, to coordinate and promote activities that strengthen the relationship between the two municipalities. The formalization of this link will be celebrated with a series of events that will highlight the culture and traditions of each town.
Parties for commemoration
The inhabitants of Casasimarro will be the first to celebrate this twinning during their small festival in early September. Roda de Berà, meanwhile, will organize its events on the second weekend of October, coinciding with its own festival. Both celebrations will include the presence of representatives of the invited community, favoring an enriching cultural exchange.
Looking to the future
The twinning project not only celebrates the past, but also opens the door to future collaborations. Mayor Pere Virgili has expressed his conviction that this relationship will be beneficial to all, fostering dialogue and understanding between cultures. It has also proposed the possibility of joining other towns, such as Kasr al-Kabir, to further strengthen ties with immigrant communities.
One step further in diversity
With this new alliance, Roda de Berà reaffirms its commitment to diversity and inclusion, celebrating its roots and opening up to new influences that will enrich their cultural identity. The story continues to evolve, and with it, the connections that unite peoples and people.
