A new model for a growing sector
The City Council of Salou has kicked off a pioneering initiative that will transform waste collection in the Horeca sector, which includes hotels, restaurants and cafés. This week, the first phase of a door -to -door collection system (PAP) is designed specifically for the needs of these establishments.
A step forward in sustainability
In order to optimize commercial waste management, this initiative is based on data that indicates that the waste generated by shops represent 36.5% of the total in Catalonia. Implement a system adapted to this sector will not only improve collection efficiency, but will also help achieve the ambitious environmental goals established by the European Union, which provide for 65% selective collection for 2035.
Area of implantation and communication with establishments
The first phase of the project will be carried out in several outlying areas of the city, including Carles Buïgas Street and Venus Square, as well as some points on Valencia Street. As the project progresses, the system is expected to extend to the whole locality.
To facilitate the transition, the City Council has launched an information campaign for the shops involved. This includes the distribution of an explanatory leaflet, as well as the delivery of containers for the collection of waste and organic fractions. The containers will be collected in semi -transparent bags, while the cardboard will remain consolidated.
Technology at the service of sustainability
One of the most innovative aspects of this new system is the incorporation of TAG-RFID technology, which will identify the origin of waste. This tool will not only help to control the participation of each establishment, but also facilitate the continuous improvement of municipal service and management.
Commitment to the quality and reduction of waste
The collection will take place between five and seven days a week, depending on the calendar and the season. The shops will have to place the buckets in front of their premises 30 minutes before the scheduled time for the collection. Once empty, the containers must be removed immediately from the public road.
Sebastià Domínguez, Councilor for Urban Waste Management, emphasizes that this new system seeks not only to increase selective collection, but also to minimize the fraction of rejection and improve the quality of the collected materials, thus avoiding the saturation of urban containers.
A small change with a great impact
The City Council insists that this adaptation represents a small change in the habits of the establishments, but that it can have a great impact on environmental sustainability and the image of Salou as a responsible destination.
