Historic agreement for urban modernization
Salou City Council has taken a significant step towards modernising its infrastructure with the approval of a collaboration agreement with the Generalitat de Catalunya. This initiative, which involves an investment of 15 million euros by the Ministry of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, focuses on the creation of the Tram Camp and the remodelling of the Civic Axis.
Votes in favor and a promising future
During the plenary session held this week, the agreement obtained the support of several political groups, including Sumem per Salou-PSC, ERC-AM and Ara PL, as well as the opposition groups Vox and USAP. Only the PP abstained, reflecting a broad consensus on the importance of this project for the city.
A green avenue for pedestrians
The project envisages the creation of an avenue of almost 2 kilometers that will replace the old railway, prioritizing pedestrian space with large green areas. This new road will not only facilitate bicycle and train-tram traffic, but will also include connections to improve sustainable mobility in the area.
Tram details
The tram is designed to run without overhead lines, ensuring free passage for pedestrians. With four landings strategically located along 750 meters, it is expected that the urban development works and the implementation of the tram system will be completed by the end of 2027.
Integration of historical heritage
The project is not only limited to modern infrastructure, but also seeks to integrate historical elements of Salou. Spaces such as the Torre Vella, the Carrilet Station and the Church of Santa Maria will be part of a monumental complex that will unite the past with the present.
A commitment to sustainability
Mayor Pere Granados has highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it represents a commitment by the Generalitat to the development of Salou, based on previous agreements that sought to finance the transformation of the space resulting from the dismantling of the railway corridor. Granados stresses that the project will improve mobility, promote social cohesion and revitalise the local economy.
A new era for Salou
With the creation of the Civic Hub, Salou is heading towards a new stage that promotes sustainability, inclusivity and coexistence. This project will not only transform the city’s urban planning, but is also expected to improve economic activity and tourism, establishing a new centrality that will attract visitors and residents alike.
