A Different Celebration

This year, nearly 70,000 people celebrated the Sant Joan carnival on the beaches of Barcelona, a figure slightly lower than last year. This modest decrease can be attributed to the fact that this year the carnival coincided with a three-day weekend and at a cooler temperature than usual.

Security and Municipal Services

Despite a tragic incident in Barceloneta, the night and morning passed without any other relevant incidents. The city’s Fire Department has carried out 78 services, mainly to put out small fires caused by pyrotechnics, while the cleaning services have collected approximately 57 tonnes of rubbish from the beaches.

The security device of the town hall has had the participation of 185 agents of the Urban Guard, 350 workers of the municipal cleaning services, in addition to the fire brigade and the Mossos d’Esquadra. The lifeguards on the beaches have carried out around thirty trips, although none of them have been for a serious case.

Incidents and Reactions

The Urban Guard has deployed 183 officers to ensure security during the revelatla, patrolling the streets together with Mossos d’Esquadra, especially in the most crowded areas. Although minimal incidents have been recorded, the death of a person by stabbing in Barceloneta has been regretted.

Tragedy in Barceloneta

During the party, a man of Colombian origin was stabbed and died in the Barceloneta neighborhood. The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken responsibility for the criminal investigation, while the Urban Guard has arrested another person in the area shortly after the incident.
