The Friends of the Elderly Foundation celebrates St George’s Day
Next Tuesday, April 23, the Amics de la Gent Gran Foundation will once again celebrate one of the most important festivities in Catalonia, Sant Jordi’s Day, a special date for the organization, the people it accompanies and the volunteers.
Rose stalls to fight the loneliness of the elderly
The foundation will have twelve stalls where you can buy natural roses and contribute to the fight against the unwanted loneliness of the elderly. There will be stops in the cities of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona, as well as in other Catalan municipalities such as Vilanova, Sant Adrià del Besòs, Reus, Cambrils, Granollers, Sant Cugat or Sabadell.
Program ‘Saint George in Company’
With the aim of bringing warmth and friendship to the elderly people of the entity, the Fundació Amics de la Gent Gran organizes the program ‘Sant Jordi en Companyia’. This program includes various socializing activities so that seniors can enjoy the tradition of this day. Some of the activities are the following:
Delivery of roses and books
All the elderly who accompany the organization will receive roses from the hands of the volunteers. In addition, thanks to the donation of various publishing houses, they will also receive a book chosen by the volunteer accompanying them and a bookmark from the foundation. Nearly 3,000 roses and books will be distributed.
Rose sales points
At the same collection points for roses and books, you can buy natural roses and collaborate with the cause.
Local activities
Local activities will be organized in many of the branches, such as thematic workshops, meetings, gatherings, breakfasts and snacks, so that the elderly people of the organization can enjoy one of the most special and emotional festivities of the year .
Involvement of public figures
As every year, there will be the participation of illustrious personalities from the world of culture, restoration or journalism, who will visit the elderly and give them the rose and the book. Some of the personalities who have participated in previous years are Judith Mascó, Quim Masferrer, Carme Ruscalleda, Antoni Bassas, Joan Pera and Eduard Farelo, among others.
Awareness through social networks
From the social network accounts, the entity will publish testimonials from elderly people and volunteers, using the hashtag #SantJordiEnCompanyia. It will also invite volunteers and public figures to visit or call the elderly people of the entity, as well as all citizens who want to share their #SantJordiEnCompany.
