Abandonment and Laziness in a Sheep Farm

A rancher from Valladolid has been investigated by the Civil Guard for the deplorable state in which he kept his sheep. The farm, located in the municipality of Renedo de Esgueva, had lacked a license since 2015 and had been deregistered in 2020. Despite this, the owner ignored the obligation to evict the animals.

Deplorable Hygienic-Sanitary Conditions

The joint inspections carried out by the Civil Guard and the Territorial Service of Agriculture and Livestock of the Junta de Castilla y León revealed a devastating picture: poor hygienic-sanitary conditions, sick animals and the presence of rodents. The poor condition of the facilities had worsened since a previous inspection carried out in 2023.

Death and Suffering of Animals

During the investigation, seven sheep carcasses were removed. Abandonment and lack of care had caused the death of several animals and endangered the safety of others. The owner was investigated for crimes against animals, accused of causing their death and putting their health at risk.

Irregular Employment and Illegal Manure

In addition to animal abuse, the rancher was also reported for employing a foreign person without legal permits. The Civil Guard also detected the creation of a manure dump without municipal authorization, which represents an administrative infraction.

Previous Interventions and Sanctions

The Civil Guard had intervened in this exploitation on several occasions since 2013, warning about sanitary deficiencies. The crime against animals, typified in Organic Law 3/2023, can lead to fines or community service, as well as disqualification from working with animals.

Diligences and Legal Actions

The Valladolid Civil Guard has sent the proceedings to the Valladolid Guard Court and a copy of the same to the Environment and Urban Planning Prosecutor’s Office. The rancher faces possible charges of animal abuse, irregular employment and creating an illegal manure dump.
