Integration in a new political group
Last Wednesday, the environment of Se Acabó La Fiesta (SALF) made official its intention to join a far-right group that operates at European level. This group, which goes by the name of Brothers of Italy, is formally known as the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR). Sources close to Alvise Pérez, the leader of this formation, have confirmed that the agreement is sustained, but Giorgia Meloni’s group has denied that the situation is fully resolved.
A pending request
From the ECR, it has been pointed out that SALF has sent a formal application to join, but that the decision on its acceptance has not yet been taken. According to reports from El Confidencial, from Giorgia Meloni’s group it is stated that it will be his team that will thoroughly analyze Alvise’s proposal, and that the final conclusion will be taken in agreement with all the members of the group. This decision could be announced next September.
The importance of new membership
For Alvise and his people, leaving the group of Non-Registered in the European Parliament is not a minor fact. Being part of a well-structured political group, like the ECR, would mean for them an increase in their financial resources and a greater possibility of speaking time during sessions and commissions.
Other options considered
In addition, SALF has tried to capitalize on the situation created by Vox, which was previously in the CRE group. Now, he is part of the new collective Patriotes for Europe (PfE), created by figures such as Marine Le Pen and Viktor Orbán. Sources close to the new formation have claimed that SALF had tried to join the PfE, but Vox’s interventions prevented it from happening.
Rejected other opportunities
Alvise Pérez studied other options such as joining Europe of the Sovereign Nations (ESN), a group that includes some of the most radical formations, such as Alternative for Germany (AfD). However, from this option it was decided not to continue and the formation chose to follow its own path in the European Parliament.
Changes in his political career
Recently, Alvise has expressed his intention to resign from his position as MEP with the aim of standing in the next general elections. Arriving at his first plenary session of the new mandate in Brussels, he shared with the media that his main desire is to accede to the Government of Spain or, at least, to influence who will do so, with an eye on removing Pedro Sanchez Thus, Alvise has confirmed that, when they are convened, he will resign and lead his new electoral proposal.
