A stage of conspiracy
An unpublished chapter of the so -called ‘Operation Catalonia’ has recently been revealed, which puts the actions of Spanish authorities in the spotlight. A report prepared by RAC1 has uncovered that former President Mariano Rajoy could have been involved in a secret plan, with the support of the CNI and even international collaborations, to disarticulate the private banking of Andorra, all in order to track the finances of prominent figures of the Catalan independence movement.

The basis of this intrigue is based on a series of emails showing how this maneuver had been conceived between 2014 and March 2015. The evidence contributed in these documents, which have been subjected to forensic analysis, reveal a intelligence plan with a well -defined political purpose: to obtain access to the bank data that could relate the promoters of independence to the independentism with a bank.
Justification of the intervention
The official excuse used for the BPA operation focused on accusations of money laundering associated with various criminal organizations, including Chinese Mafia and Russian oligarchs. These allegations were reported to Fincen with the intention of achieving an alert that legalized the intervention. This alert was broadcast on March 10, 2015, and caused the fall of the BPA and its Spanish subsidiary, Banco Madrid.

A key figure in this plot has been identified as Basilio Sánchez Portillo, a Civil Guard commander who acted as an intermediary with American intelligence services. Sources involved in the operation indicate that Felix Sanz Roldán, the director of the CNI at that time, mobilized his contacts to obtain the necessary support to execute this bank intervention.
Decisive encounters
The filtered documents suggest that Rajoy and the then Head of Government of Andorra, Antoni Martí Petit, agreed on this operation at several meetings, both in Spain and in Andorra. The Spanish authorities linked the BPA with accounts of the Pujol family and other pro -independence figures, presenting the intervention as an answer to international obligations, when in fact it was a maneuver to obtain sensitive information.
The consequences of the operation
One of the most shocking revelations comes from a note from Villarejo, who states that three days before the intervention, it had already been decided that the BPA directors would be dismissed and imprisoned, including the CEO, Joan Pau Miquel. Villarejo expressed his frustration because other Andorran organizations, such as Andbank, were also not subject to similar actions, despite their alleged connections to independence.

Finally, an email dated March 21, 2015 indicates that the destruction of all the documentation that the Spanish state could commit in this operation was ordered.
