Man convicted of sexual assault and injuries to friend
A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison and to pay a considerable sum, as well as medical expenses, for sexually assaulting and causing injuries to a friend who lived in a precarious home in Güímar, Tenerife.
The situation and the conflict between the convicted person and the victim
The convicted man met the victim through his partner, who offered him to live in a precarious home in exchange for help fixing it. However, conflicts arose between them, including a dispute over money and behavior that made the victim feel harassed.
The attack and the consequences
In October 2022, the victim accused the convicted man of having entered her home, beaten her, tried to strangle her and raped her. Experts confirmed that the victim’s injuries were consistent with a violent attack, and DNA evidence of the convicted man was found at the crime scene.
Medical and legal evaluation
Doctors concluded that the injuries could have caused a brain hemorrhage, but fortunately there was no risk of death. Despite the convicted man’s defense, the experts considered it unlikely that the injuries were caused by a fall, thus supporting the victim’s version.
Conclusions
The verdict of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Court highlights the seriousness of the crimes committed and sends a clear message of condemnation towards the aggressor. This case underscores the importance of justice in sexual assault cases and the need to protect victims.
