Strategic deployment of new agents

After the summer season, the Mossos d’Esquadra will open a call to recruit 900 new agents, which reinforces the police contingent in Catalonia. This action is in addition to recent recruitment initiatives that include the incorporation of around 800 officers this summer at the Mollet del Vallès Police School, as well as the entry of another group of almost 800 officers who will begin their training in September in the Public Security Institute of Catalonia (ISPC), as mentioned by the acting Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, during the opening of a new police station in La Jonquera, in the Alt Empordà region.

The next call is added to the 800 positions that will be incorporated this August and the 800 planned for June 2025. These plans are part of a strategy to increase the number of Mossos d’Esquadra agents from 17,000 to 22,000 between 2030 and 2031 , an objective that has been achieved thanks to an agreement with the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. This expansion of agents is considered a priority to strengthen the police presence throughout the region, emphasizing not only the number of personnel, but also technological, scientific, and equipment improvements.

Strategic importance of the new police station in La Jonquera

The recent inauguration of the police station in La Jonquera is strategic due to its location in the main connection between the borders of Spain and France, which reinforces operational capacity in a vital area for traffic between North Africa, the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe, in Northern Catalonia.

The chief commissioner of the Mossos d’Esquadra, Eduard Sallent, highlighted the importance of this infrastructure, underlining the significant influx of traffic in the region. Collaboration with Spanish and French police forces in this area has been long-standing, with agents stationed in French-administered territory. Previously, the police station operated in barracks, so the construction of this new headquarters is a significant advance. In addition, the future construction of another police station in Llançà was announced during the official visit to the northern area of the Principality.
