A significant increase in the capabilities of the marshes
In recent days they have witnessed a significant increase in the water reserves of the marshes, with an increase of 9 percentage points between March 7 and 9. This improvement represents the most significant variation recorded since the Gloria storm, which took place five years ago.
The causes of change
Recent rainfall, along with the snow accumulated in the upper areas, have been decisive for this rise. However, the snowfall has played a crucial role, as it has limited the increase that could have occurred with more rain. The swamps have gone from a minimum of 31% to 41% of their current capacity.
Comparison with previous year
We analyze the marshes data compared to those of the same period last year. At this critical moment of 2022, the Darnius-Boadella reservoir was alarming 11%, while now it has grown to 32%.
Improvements in key marshes
The Sau reservoir, which was virtually dry with 1%a year ago, has now reached 25%. As for Susqueda, its situation has improved considerably, from 21% to 42%.
Situation in other basins
Taking towards the river Llobregat, the Baells reservoir has increased its capacity to 69%, in contrast to 19% of a year ago. In Cardener, the horse slab has gone from 16% to 39%.
Improvements to the Ebro basin
The swamps of the Ebro basin have also experienced significant growth. Canelles was 62%, while Santa Anna has reached 79%. Other marshes such as Sant Antoni and Oliana have positioned themselves at 54% and 62%, respectively.
Futuristic perspectives
Currently, the overall average reserves of the Ebro basin swamps is 72%. The weather conditions indicate that the rains and snowfall will continue, thus favoring a possible additional improvement in the water reserves.
With the current situation, experts remain optimistic about the water capacity of the marshes, hoping that future climate conditions will help to further stabilize and improve the water reserves.
