Pedro Sánchez’s commitment to the two-state solution
The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that Spain is prepared to recognize the Palestinian State and has shown its support for the two-state solution. During his appearance in Congress, he highlighted the need to strengthen the deterrence capacity against Russia to safeguard peace, democracy and freedom in Europe.
Posture in the face of counterproductive speeches
Sánchez rejected the ideas of a possible world war or the transformation of Europe into a war economy, as well as the sending of soldiers to the conflict in Ukraine, stating that there is no attempt to intensify the conflict or militarize the region.
Critical response and debate in Congress
Given Sánchez’s proposal, the Popular Party opposed and expressed its concern. Alberto Núñez-Feijóo stated that Sánchez’s speech generates confusion and unnecessary fear in the population, calling it false and counterproductive rhetoric.
Objective of the European strategy
The president of the Spanish government emphasized that the objective is not to foster a warlike atmosphere in Europe or convert the region into a war-oriented economy, and assured that it is not necessary to drastically modify the productive structure or the lives of citizens to face the Russian threat.
Economic and social achievements
Sánchez highlighted that the reforms implemented have strengthened Spain’s position in Europe, allowing it to have influence on key decisions. He highlighted the important reduction of income inequality in Spain and the sanitation of public accounts achieved during his mandate, in addition to highlighting the record of 21 million Social Security affiliates since he assumed the presidency.
