New Ecological Transport System on Aragon Moll
The Port of Tarragona has launched a competition for the granting of an innovative horizontal transport service of solids to plow at the Moll de Aragon. This initiative seeks to modernize the logistics of the discharge of cereals and other agri -food products, with a private investment that exceeds 10 million euros.
Environmental and operational benefits
The new infrastructure will allow, instead of trucks, cereals to move to silos through conveyor belts. This change will not only improve the safety of the wharf, reducing the presence of heavy vehicles, but will also contribute to environmental sustainability, reducing CO2 emissions and other pollutants.
Details of the ribbon system
The contracting company will install a main ribbon of at least 200 meters that will be aligned with the Moll. In addition, interconnected tapes will be included that will allow efficient management of cereal traffic, avoiding interference with vehicles and trains.
Coverage and capture of dust
The tapes will be designed with coverage to minimize merchandise losses and prevent particle dispersion in the environment. Also, filters are expected to capture the dust generated during the transport process.
Optimization of the operation of the dock
The implementation of this system is essential for optimization of operation in a wharf that often operates at full capacity. With a transport capacity of 1,000 tons per hour, the ribbons will be a significant improvement in the speed of loading and unloading with respect to the use of trucks.
Increased security
Fewer trucks at the Moll will involve a reduction in the risks associated with its circulation, thus increasing the overall security of operations in this strategic area.
Economic and temporary impact
With a maximum occupancy of 4,930 m² on the wharf, the concession is expected to be executed within 30 months. The winning company will be responsible for managing the system for the next 40 years, guaranteeing a significant investment that will benefit both the local economy and the sustainability of the port.
A Step Forwards toward the Sustainability
The transition to a more ecological transport system in the port of Tarragona represents a model to be followed for other facilities. Reducing environmental impact through new technologies is essential for the future of maritime transport and logistics, and this project is a clear example of how innovation can drive positive changes.
