A day for unity and celebration
Next Sunday, May 25, Tarragona will become the meeting point for the local African community and the city, within the framework of Africa Day. This day, organized by the City Council’s Ministry of Cooperation in collaboration with the Port Authority, seeks to establish an enriching dialogue between cultures and celebrate diversity.
Cinematographic activities and projections
The events will take place at the Teatre and in the Pergola del Serrallo, where a short film will be screened by the traveling festival of African cinemas of Catalonia (FICAC). This edition includes four films, with the aim of showing African cultural richness and fostering an environment of respect and inclusion.
A short film with message
Among the selected films is ‘Beutset (L’Aurora)’, directed by Alicia Mendy. This fictional work addresses water pollution in Dakar, and tells the story of a young man who, affected by a disease arising from this environmental crisis, begins a journey of personal discovery and activism. These narratives seek to cause deep reflection on the current reality.
Voices of the Community and Collaborations
During a press conference, the Minister of Cooperation, Cecilia Mangini, emphasized the importance of bringing African culture closer to the citizens of Tarragona to combat prejudices and foster a more cohesive society. Representatives of various entities, such as the Indivisible Association and Active Cooperation, also participated, which expressed their enthusiasm for the programmed activities.
Collaborating entities
The organizations that have made this event possible include the Association of African Women of Tarragona, Afrobeats and the Yayoumbay tailor shop, among others. His collaboration is essential to guarantee a rich day in experiences and knowledge.
Projects and future
On Africa Day in Tarragona not only commemorates the founding of the Organization for African Unity, but it also represents a step towards a more inclusive and respectful future. This celebration extends beyond the Tarragona borders, with simultaneous projections in various municipalities of Catalonia and Senegal, thus strengthening the ties between cultures.
With this initiative, Tarragona positions itself as an example of social cohesion and cultural exchange, demonstrating that diversity is a wealth that must be celebrated and encouraged in every corner of society.
