NEXT generation fund for a smarter future
The City Council of Tarragona has achieved an injection of € 928,070 from the Next Generation Fund, aimed at the digitalization and modernization of its tourist infrastructure. This financing is within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and is part of the Intelligent Tourist Destinations Network (DTI).
Contectragona: A project with a vision for the future
The Conectrragona project seeks to establish an intelligent management ecosystem that will analyze tourist demand more effectively. The initiative aims to improve the experience of both residents and visitors, adapting services to accessibility needs, as well as optimizing the city’s promotion strategies.
Digital infrastructure for better tourist management
The Minister of Tourism, Economic Promotion and Commerce, Montse Adan, emphasized that the project will allow to deploy a series of digital infrastructures that will be consolidated on a smart platform. This platform will facilitate access to data that will help improve the influx of visitors to the historic center of Tarragona, as well as to better manage tourist flows.
Counting and reorientation of visitors
In addition, a system will be launched that will allow a real time count of visitors to the city. This will facilitate the reorientation of tourists based on the occupation of different museums, monuments or areas, thus improving the global experience.
Toward sustainable and responsible tourism
This initiative not only seeks to modernize the tourist offer, but also is part of a wider strategy of sustainability, with the aim of seasonalizing tourism and making Tarragona an attractive destination throughout the year.
Collaboration with other Mediterranean destinations
The smart platform of Destiny Tarragona will not operate in isolation, but will share experiences and cases of use with other cities of the Mediterranean axis, such as Castelldefels and Vinaròs, thus enriching the tourist ecosystem of the region.
Support of the tourist ecosystem
The Conectarragona project has the collaboration of nine key agents of the local tourist ecosystem, including the Camping Grouping, the Tarragona Hotels Association, and the Port Authority, among others, to guarantee the success of new initiatives.
In this way, Tarragona is among the 46 destinations benefited by the aid to the implementation of technological solutions that promote its evolution as a smart tourist destination.
