Installation of networks to prevent nesting
Recently, the City Council of Tarragona has implemented a new deterrent network under the A-7 bridge, in the cemetery area, with the aim of limiting the stay and reproduction of the pigeons. This initiative seeks to reduce the spaces that these birds use to nest, as well as improve the cleaning of the pedestrian area and for vehicles.
Impact on the population of pigeons
To date, a colony of more than one hundred pigeons has been detected in this location, and have been removed around thirty active nests. The investment for this operation amounts to € 7,429.40, VAT included.
Renewed strategy for pigeons management
The Minister of Public Cleaning, Sonia Orts, said that this action is part of a new approach to the management of the population of pigeons, after the ineffectiveness of other methods such as capture or control with contraceptive. The goal is to end the accumulation of feces and dirt on public roads, which generates additional costs for cleaning.
Complementary actions to control power
In addition to the installation of networks, the City Council is collaborating with the Port of Tarragona to address the pigeon feed sources, which are often gathered in this area. Likewise, raising awareness campaigns are planned to the citizenry to prevent birds from feeding within the urban center.
Perspectives a futur
With these measures, the counselor Orts hopes that the population of pigeons can be maintained at sustainable levels, minimizing the inconvenience and the poor condition of public roads. The joint strategy with the port of Tarragona and the new actions of the City Council are significant steps towards a cleaner and more enjoyable environment for all.
