Appeal to prevent the arrival of the ship
In Cartagena, Murcia, there is a moment of maximum tension due to the imminent arrival of the ship Borkum, which is transporting a shipment of military weapons destined for Israel. The Solidarity Network Against the Occupation of Palestine (RESCOP) has denounced the presence of dozens of tons of weapons on the ship, including rocket motors, rockets with explosive charges, explosive substances and cannon propellant charges. Given this situation, RESCOP has made a call to demand that the Pedro Sánchez government prevent the ship from stopping in Murcian waters. This request has been supported by political parties such as Podemos and Más Madrid.
Confidentiality clause and collaboration complaints
Documents from the ship’s port of origin have been leaked, which include a confidentiality clause that prohibits revealing information related to the cargo and its destination. Furthermore, the NGO RESCOP has denounced Spain’s collaboration with Israel, citing the Arms Trade Treaty to support its position. According to RESCOP, allowing the arrival of a ship loaded with weapons to a country investigated for genocide against the Palestinian people and responsible for serious violations of human rights goes against said treaty.
Denial of destiny and political reactions
The Ministry of Transport has denied that the ship is destined for Israel, stating that it is heading to the Czech Republic. However, this has generated criticism from several political parties, including Podemos, whose secretary Ione Belarra has demanded that President Pedro Sánchez act to prevent the ship from entering. Another representative of Podemos, María Marín, has stated that they will not allow the ship to stop in Cartagena.
