A meaningful event for Catalonia
The Minister of Justice and Democratic Quality, Ramon Espadaler, has shared important news about the Mass of Sant Jordi, which will be held at the Palau de la Generalitat. In a recent interview with Radio Estel, he confirmed that the Abbot of Montserrat, Manel Gasch, will be the one who will chair the ceremony, a moment that coincides with the commemoration of the millennium of the monastery.
Positive secularism and religious values
Espadaler has highlighted the policy of positive secularism promoted by the island’s government, which recognizes the importance of religiosity in Catalan society. In his words, the counselor said: “We respect beliefs, which can offer enriching values to our coexistence.”
Recovering traditions
This year’s new features include the reinstatement of the blessing of Roses, an initiative agreed with Father Josep Maria Turull, prior of the chapel of Sant Jordi. Espadaler stated: “We have agreed that every year a significant figure will chair the Mass, giving it a special character.”
Interreligious dialogue and social inclusion
The counselor also addressed the work of the Directorate General of Religious Affairs, focused on promoting the dialogue between different beliefs and preventing religion from becoming a dividing factor. “We are working on multiple interfaith fronts, including spaces for worship and religious assistance in hospitals,” he said.
Commitment to the most vulnerable
Espadaler emphasized the role of the church in the penitentiary, emphasizing its commitment to those who are in vulnerable situations. “The Church contributes to transforming prison into a rehabilitation space, not rejection,” he said, emphasizing the importance of projects such as the Santa Anna campaign hospital, which helps people in need.
A global vision of the Church
At the end of the conversation, Espadaler expressed his satisfaction with his participation in the retirement pilgrimage to Rome. He shared that this experience offered him a new perspective on the role of the Church globally, emphasizing the need for a broader vision that transcends Eurocentrism.
Fostering institutional dialogue
To conclude, he announced that the Catalan Government will hold an exhibition on Montserrat, which will show a thousand years of art and history at the Palace of the Chancellery of Rome, with the aim of strengthening the institutional and spiritual dialogue with the Holy See.
