Bringing together energy leaders and experts

The Africa Energy Forum (aef) congress takes place in Barcelona from June 25 to 28 and brings together more than 2,000 attendees to discuss Africa’s energy future. This event, which is a reference in the continent’s energy sector, has the participation of nearly 20 ministers and fifty senior leaders from countries such as Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Togo and Sierra Leone, among others. In addition, it attracts investors from 90 countries and prominent organizations such as the World Bank, Engie, Power Africa, GE Vernova, Total Energías and AfDB.

Exploring Africa’s energy potential

The 26th edition of the aef, titled ‘Energy Systems for the Future: Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals’, addresses various topics related to the continent’s energy future. These include the potential of hydrogen in Africa, power grid management, energy storage and distribution, the role of gas and mining, the promotion of renewable energy projects, distributed power, commercial and industrial projects to advance universal access and the development of energy markets for a broader energy transition in Africa.

The importance of the event

Abdoulaye Sylla, Head of Corporate Development at EnergyNet, one of the main companies promoting the aef, highlights the quality of the participants and the depth of the debates that will take place during the four days of the congress. Some 20 African energy ministers, senior leaders and major global investors are expected to participate. Discussion topics will be at a high level and will address key issues such as renewable energy, gas, blended finance and the role of large energy buyers.

Spanish investment in the African energy transition

Spain has announced its willingness to become a key agent in the African energy transition. In the coming years, more than €2 billion will be mobilized to finance energy transition projects in South Africa. In addition, a financing line of 200 million euros has been announced for the development of green hydrogen projects in Mauritania. In this way, Spain joins other European countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom in promoting renewable energies in Africa.
