Wine: More than a Drink
Wine is much more than just a drink that we buy and enjoy. From its origin in the vineyard to the moment it fills our glass, there is a complex and fascinating process that deserves to be explored and understood to truly appreciate its nuances.
The Start of a Wine Project
Before entering the world of wine, it is crucial to understand that everything begins with a project, a winery and, most fundamentally, the vineyard. Without the vines, there is no grape, and without grapes, there is no wine. Martí Torrallardona, a young entrepreneur, takes us to his vineyard in Sant Jaume Sesoliveres (Anoia), where he grows grapes that ripen in various containers, such as the demijohn, a glass container that, according to Martí, allows aging similar to that of the bottle.
Recovering a Family Tradition
The vineyard that Martí cultivates belonged to his grandparents, and by recovering it, he honors his family and keeps alive a tradition rooted in the territory. At La Fita, the wines are made with minimal intervention to preserve the landscape and authenticity of the region.
Strain Care
Martí uses the poor man’s trellis method to guide the growth of the vines, facilitating the harvesting of the grapes. This approach differs from that used in young vines, where a metal stake is used for certain vines.
Grape Varieties and Tradition
Martí grows varieties like Macabeo in an old vineyard that dates back to the 80s, keeping the family tradition alive. This approach reflects his commitment to authenticity and respect for the landscape.
