A new opportunity for Secondary students
The third edition of the Carme Miquel Award, organized by the Valencian Language Academy (AVL), opens a new chapter in its mission to promote the use of Valencian. This year, the call is extended to include Secondary School students, in addition to those already participating in Infant and Primary Education.
Family involvement: a key piece
Vicenta Tassa, president of the Section for Promotion of the Use of Valencian Community, has highlighted the importance of family involvement in the process of teaching the language. Tassa shared an inspiring example of a children’s school where all the activities, including the posters, were carried out in Valencian. This not only benefited the children in the classroom, but also allowed families to be exposed to the language in their free time.
A tribute to Carme Miquel
The award is named after Carme Miquel, an emblematic figure in the defense of the Valencian. Despite her short career as an AVL academic, her influence endures. Born in La Nucia in 1944, Miquel was recognized for her dedication as a teacher and activist, and the award seeks to keep her memory and legacy alive.
Key dates for participants
Those interested in participating in the contest can send their works until September 30, 2024. The jury, made up of AVL academics, will announce the winners on November 22. The awards ceremony will take place on November 30 at the monastery of Sant Miquel dels Reis in Valencia.
A promising future for the Valencian
This initiative not only seeks to reward students’ creativity, but also to strengthen the presence of Valencian in the daily lives of young people, both inside and outside the classroom. The participation of families is essential to ensure that the language is not restricted to school, but that it becomes an integral element of their education and identity.
