A new stage in the purchase of the Nova Factory
The City Council has taken a decisive initiative to facilitate the possible acquisition of the New Factory by the Council. In compliance with the commitment established with the island director of Heritage, Maria Isabel Arnau, the valuation of the factory building has been presented, set at 660,000 euros. This assessment, carried out prior to the request for expropriation, will be updated by the Heritage department based on the report drawn up by the municipal services. This will provide the supra-municipal administration with criteria to assess the state of the building, as reported by municipal sources.
Negotiations and future projections
This initial step opens up the possibility of a negotiation phase with the property, as there is a notable discrepancy between the price requested for the forced expropriation (4.5 million euros) and the valuation presented by the Town hall. The Councilor for Heritage, Juan A. Lorente, has emphasized the importance of this first stage as a starting point for preserving the building. Talks with the Council for the purchase of the Fàbrica Nova resumed after Sóller presented a project to enhance the textile heritage. Based on the documentation presented, the Council will study the feasibility of the building becoming publicly owned.
Background and current state of the building
It should be remembered that this is not the first attempt by the Government team to promote the acquisition of the property by the Council. Since its declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2018, the building has experienced a notable deterioration, which has motivated the intervention of the Heritage department in order to guarantee its conservation. Although work has begun to clean up and close the site, the final acquisition has not been finalized until a comprehensive assessment has been carried out.
