An unmissable encounter for cyclists

On June 8, the classic Penedès prepares for its sixth edition, reaffirming as one of the most anticipated citations in the world of cycling. This event, which has gained popularity over the years, was recently presented at the Vilafranca Tourism Office, with the participation of the Councilor for Sports, Gemma Romeu, and representatives of the organizers, Lets Velo and Sans cycles.

Participation and expectations

With more than 900 cyclists already registered, the classic Penedès is positioned as the fourth most relevant cycling test in Catalonia, only surpassed by renowned events such as Mussara and the Terra de Remences. The trend shows constant growth in participation, reflecting the growing interest in this exciting sport.

Improved experience for participants

This year, the organization has made a remarkable effort to enrich the cyclist’s experience. Each participant will receive a bag with quality products, which will include an Etxx brand drum, novell coffee capsules, a can of Amstel beer and an energy gel, in addition to an exclusive article made with light tissues.

Challenging tours to choose

Cyclists can choose between two challenging routes that cross the Emblematic Landscapes of the Penedès. The first option is a long 135 km route with a positive 2000 meter unevenness, which includes locations such as Vilafranca, Pla del Penedès and Santes Creus. The second option, more accessible, is a short 85 km tour, which shares part of the journey to La Llacuna and returns to Vilafranca through Font-Rubí.

Participation trends

Historically, participation between both tours has been balanced. However, a notable fact is the increase in female participation, which has exceeded 10% in previous years and continues to rise. In addition, 97% of cyclists come from Catalonia, being Barcelona and their metropolitan area responsible for 15% of the total registration.

Activities prior to the event

As a novelty, on Saturday, June 7, talks open to the public will be held, where Etxx will offer a session on sports nutrition, addressing fundamental aspects before, during and after the competition. Also, Gemma Rossell will present her book ‘The Challenge’, contributing added value to the experience of the attendees.

Impact in the Penedès Brand

The councilor Gemma Romeu and the organizers have emphasized the importance of events such as the classic Penedès to strengthen the image of the city and the region as a reference cycling destination. These types of competitions not only promote sport, but also contribute to the tourism development of the region, attracting cycling enthusiasts from various parts.

Looking to the future

With each edition, the classic Penedès continues to evolve and adapt to the needs of its participants, consolidating itself as a key event in the Cycling calendar of Catalonia. The expectation for this year is high, and the organizers are ready to offer an unforgettable experience that highlights the beauty of the Penedès and the passion for cycling.
