The Effects of the War in Spain

The war between Ukraine and Russia had unexpected repercussions in Spain, in the form of increased inflation and a negative economic impact.

The increase in basic food prices caused an emergency situation, leading the Spanish government to take measures to counteract this crisis.

Government Aid

The Spanish government implemented several measures to help those affected, including a reduction in VAT on basic foodstuffs and the delivery of a check for 200 euros to those who needed it most.

Results of the Aid

The aid was made available through 2022 and 2023, with the expectation of helping millions of people in need. However, applications were far fewer than expected, with only 631,335 people applying for help.

The Spanish government tried to increase participation by lowering the requirements to access aid in 2023, but despite these changes, applications continued to fall short of expectations.

Dismissal and Pending Resolution

A large number of requests were rejected for not meeting the established criteria, and there are still many requests pending resolution.

Due to these results, the Spanish government decided not to extend the aid during 2024.
