A new horizon for municipal services
The city of Vilafranca is preparing for a significant change in the management of its public services. According to a recent announcement by the CUP, the municipal services company will be launched by the end of 2026, after an agreement between the Local Government of the PSC and the CUP. This project will begin to take shape with the administrative procedures that will be launched this year.
First steps toward the municipalization
The proposal for the creation of this new company will be debated in the Municipal Plenum of April, where the members of the CUP trust to obtain the support of the other groups. The spokeswoman for the party, Marta Soler, emphasized that the municipalization of currently outsourced services is a priority for its training. “Through this initiative, we will be able to manage services such as blue areas directly, positively impacting about fifteen employees,” he said.

Soler has argued that public management of services allows more effective democratic control over its quality and costs. “With this new structure, the administration will be able to reinvest the benefits in the same services or reduce costs for the citizenry,” he said, emphasizing the importance of a model that prioritized the public interest over private benefit.

The CUP emphasizes that the direct management of public services is essential to guarantee the quality, democratic control and just working conditions for workers.

CUP members have expressed concern about the abuse of service tender, which has led to large companies that concentrate important public contracts, often with negative consequences for workers. This trend has generated significant benefits at the expense of labor quality, which is why the CUP considers the creation of the municipal services company essential.
