A new approach to children’s literature
This Tuesday, in the emblematic Palau Bofarull of Reus, the Diputación de Tarragona launched a new title in its El Far collection, focused on accessible reading. The chosen work, ‘The Zoo d’en Pitus’, by the author Sebastià Sorribas, has been adapted by Ana Crespo, with illustrations of the talented lane Setó, who is the alumine of the School of Art and Local Design.
Adding efforts for accessibility
This recent publication joins other volumes already available in the collection, such as ‘Animalades’ by Judit Robert and ‘I, what are you doing here’ by Joaquim Carbó, both also adapted to facilitate their reading. All these books can be acquired in a simple way through the website of the Library of the Diputación.
An event with community approach
The president of the Diputación, Noemí Llauradó, was in charge of the event, accompanied by key figures such as Elisabet Serra, representative of the easy reading association, and other members of the educational community. Llauradó highlighted the importance of ‘the Zoo d’en Pitus’, describing it as a pillar of children’s literature in Catalan since its publication in 1966.
An answer to educational needs
During his speech, Llauradó mentioned that this adaptation arises as a result of the applications of special education schools in Reus and its surroundings, seeking to meet the specific demands of its students.
Commitment to inclusion and culture
The president highlighted the effort of the educational community and the quality of the illustrations of the School of Art and Design, stressing that the El FAR collection seeks to promote values of equity, inclusion and cultural access for all.
Facilitating access to reading
In Catalonia, it is estimated that 30% of the population faces difficulties in reading, which converts to initiatives such as the FAR into essential. This collection adapts literary works using easy reading criteria, such as short phrases and clear language, allowing a more accessible understanding.
An initiative with future
Promoted by educators Susanna Giner and Teresa Mateu, this project not only seeks to promote reading, but also promote the active participation of all people in society. The Diputación, together with the easy reading association, continues to work to demolish barriers and make the culture accessible to all.
