A new era for the Champions League
The Champions League captivates fans again with its 70th edition, the first to be implemented with a renewed format. On Thursday 29 August, Monaco will host the draw for the group stage of this competition which promises excitement and surprises.
Outstanding Catalan representation
For the first time in the history of the tournament, two Catalan teams, FC Barcelona and Girona, will compete simultaneously. The Spanish representatives will be completed by Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, adding a total of 36 teams in this emblematic competition.
Draw details
The draw will begin at 6:00 p.m., and will be organized in four phases, with the most prestigious teams selected first. The clubs will be distributed in four groups according to their UEFA coefficient, with Real Madrid as current champion, occupying the first group.
Regulations and restrictions
To avoid clashes between clubs in the same league, Barça will not be able to compete with any Spanish team, and the limitations will also apply to clubs from other leagues, including a maximum of two teams from each competition.
Calendar of confrontations
The group stage matches will be played between September and January, with key dates such as September 17 for the first day and January 29 for the last. The top eight teams will advance directly to the round of 16, while the others will play a play-off for a place in the next round.
The road to European glory
With the play-offs system, the teams that occupy places from 9 to 24 will have the opportunity to fight for their continuity in the competition, while those that remain in the last positions will be eliminated.
An expected end
The grand final will be held on May 31, 2025, when it will be known who will take home the prestigious title of European Champion. The draw ceremony will be accessible through Movistar Liga de Campeones, and will mark the start of a new and exciting season of European football.
