Introduction

Numismatics is an exciting hobby that has experienced a great boom in our country. After the euro completely replaced the peseta, there are more and more people who feel nostalgic for these old pieces of currency and are willing to invest large amounts of money to acquire them.

The importance of the value of coins

Not all coins have the same value in the numismatic market. In fact, some have no value at all. It is important to keep this consideration in mind when collecting coins. However, there is one piece in particular that stands out for its special features and can turn you into a real millionaire.

The cents: authentic jewels of numismatics

Cents are a series of coins that attract attention for their antiquity, scarcity and other unique characteristics. These are gold 100 shield coins that were issued during the reigns of Philip III and Philip IV in the 17th century. These pieces have been qualified by experts as authentic jewels of Spanish numismatics due to their rarity. Only four different types were minted during the years 1609, 1618, 1623 and 1633.

In addition, they stand out for being the largest gold coins in history, with a size of 7.33 cm and a weight of 359 grams. Unfortunately, it is not known exactly how many of these coins are still in circulation.

The exceptional value of a coin

In 2009, one of these coins minted in 1609 was sold at auction. At that time, its price reached 800,000 euros. However, experts have increased its value to 2 million euros. As for the coins minted in 1618, no examples are known. Regarding the coins of the years 1623 and 1633, four copies are preserved, although three of them are in private hands.

The historical and symbolic value of coins

These coins, which are worth more than one million euros, are the most traded at the moment. At one time, these coins were only used as a symbol of wealth or recognition, due to their exceptional value. These were coins that were awarded as a prize to noblemen during the reign of Philip III. Of exquisite quality and crafted in gold and silver, these coins were personally approved by the king himself, making them the most important coins of the time.
