A step towards territorial equality
The Committee of the Regions of the European Union has taken a crucial step in the fight against depopulation, unanimously approving the creation of specific funds for areas affected by this phenomenon.
Castilla-La Mancha, standard bearer of the fight
The vice president of Castilla-La Mancha, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, has highlighted the fundamental role of the region in this initiative, which affects numerous European countries.
Specific funds for depopulated areas
Castilla-La Mancha’s request, approved unanimously, requests that EU cohesion funds include a greater allocation for territories with depopulation problems in the period 2027-2033.
Furthermore, the Committee has called for the creation of additional cross-cutting funding in all EU programmes, especially in the Structural Funds, to reduce the social and economic gap in these areas.
Equal opportunities for all citizens
Martínez Guijarro has emphasized that the fight against depopulation is essential to guarantee equality between citizens, regardless of their place of residence.
He has insisted that access to resources, as in large cities, is essential to achieve this objective.
Support for the proposals of Castilla-La Mancha
The Committee of the Regions has also supported other Castilla-La Mancha proposals, such as the flexible application of structural funds in rural areas and the classification of sparsely populated areas below the provincial level.
This support demonstrates the leadership of Castilla-La Mancha in the fight against depopulation at the European level.
