Economic support for unemployed citizens
The public state employment system (SEPE) is responsible for managing unemployment benefits in Spain, providing economic assistance to those unemployed people who need to cover their basic needs.
Compatibility of benefits and other income
Current legislation allows unemployment benefits to be combined with other sources of income in specific cases, such as pensions from abroad, replacement work contracts or legal compensation for contract termination.
Part-time work and other considerations
In part-time work situations, a proportional share of unemployment benefit will be received, while scholarships, grants, training internships and other non-contributory income may be compatible with unemployment.
Exceptions and deadlines for compatibility
There are exceptions such as the Minimum Living Income, which do not affect the right to receive unemployment benefit. The compatibility with other income has a time limit of 270 days and specific requirements must be met by the self-employed or members of new labor societies.
