Preparations for an unforgettable celebration

The Department of Festivals of the City of Alcoy is immersed in an intense activity to ensure that the Moors and Christians Festivals of 2025 are a success. Jordi Martínez, the person in charge of this area, emphasized the collaboration with the Sant Jordi Association to coordinate all the necessary details.

Active collaboration and logistics preparations

Martinez said that, in addition to the ASJ, the City Council is responsible for facilitating logistics during the festivities. “Although the management of the grandstands is the responsibility of the association, we are here to help in everything they need,” he said. He also mentioned that activities such as musicians are included in programming, expanding the festival to four days.

Renewal and innovation in festive decoration

The preparations include the installation of enramades and a castle, traditional elements that provide a festive air in the city. “Despite the setbacks caused by the rain, we will make sure that the streets look with the emblematic enramada in early April,” said Martinez. He has also mentioned the renovation of the battlements in the Plaza de España, which are now lighter and safer.

A Special Year: 750 Anniversary of Patronage

In the face of the 750th anniversary of the patronage of Sant Jordi, Martínez has confirmed that the painting of the Enramada will be a priority to ensure that everything is in perfect condition.

Community activities and participation

The council is not only limited to the preparation of the festivities, but it is also facilitating various activities weekly for the rows. ‘Recently, the Aragonese and smuggling rows organized events in the square of the inside and the gazebo, and this weekend the Marrakesch Arabic Society will be held,’ he said.

A Step Forwards toward Equality

One of the key issues that has arisen is the inclusion of women at festivals. Martinez has expressed his satisfaction with the standardization of this inclusion, emphasizing that, ‘ten years ago, we saw the first female target normally, and now it is a pride that there is a woman holding a representative position’.

Reflections on social change

Martinez reflected on how, despite obstacles, society has evolved into a greater acceptance of equality. “We are all the same and we must live the festivities in the same way,” he said, emphasizing that this change is irreversible.

Looking to the future: projects for 2026

While preparing for the festivities of 2025, Martinez is already thinking of the events of 2026, a year that promises to be memorable with the 750th anniversary of Sant Jordi. “We are starting to plan everything, as it will be a historical moment for the city of Alcoy,” he concluded.
