Sustainable lighting
The Generalitat de Catalunya, through its Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, is working to reduce the environmental impact of outdoor lighting and reduce light pollution in Catalonia. With this aim, grants have been activated with a budget of 9 million euros for the implementation of sustainable measures in public lighting.
Aid for the adaptation of outdoor lighting
The plan includes a line of aid so that councils can adapt exterior lighting, bearing in mind that this is one of the councils’ main concerns. In addition, work is being done on the creation of a specific line of aid for the improvement of the external lighting of establishments of private economic activities, such as wineries, campsites, farms and rural establishments.
Protection of special protection zones
The project to reduce the environmental impact of outdoor lighting also aims to protect areas of special protection, such as Montsant, from light pollution. This initiative is financed through the Climate Fund of the Generalitat, with a budget allocation of more than 9 million euros. In addition, this fund comes from the income obtained from the tax on CO2 emissions from mechanically propelled vehicles and from the tax on installations that have an impact on the environment.
Preserving the values ​​of silence and darkness
Montsant is a Catalan natural area that stands out for its richness in intangible values ​​such as tranquility, silence and the contemplation of nature. These values ​​are part of the intangible cultural heritage and are closely linked to the spiritual charge of the mountain. For this reason, Montsant has been declared a light and acoustic quality protection zone, and measures have been implemented to preserve these values.
