The Government approves the new regional planning of Catalonia

The Government of the Generalitat has reached a consensus for the new territorial organization of Catalonia. According to official sources, this new arrangement will be made up of seven vegueries, which coincide with the seven territorial functional areas established by the General Territorial Plan of Catalonia. In addition, expansion to eight vegueries is being considered with the inclusion of the one in Penedès. The aim of this new arrangement is to establish an institutional architecture that surpasses the provincial administration and is linked to political Catalanism.

The territorial planning law will not include a detailed map

The future territorial planning law will not specify the number of vegueries or their exact locations. Instead, it will focus on establishing the attributions of each vegueria and its territorial division. This will allow greater flexibility and adaptability to future needs and changes. This decision has been taken to avoid restrictions and limitations in the territorial development of Catalonia.

Imminent approval of two reports related to the new arrangement

The Department of Governance and Public Administrations plans to approve two reports related to the new territorial planning. The first report will deal with the law of local governments, while the second report will address the transition from provincial councils to councils of municipalities. The approval of these reports will mark the way for the preparation of the two corresponding laws. It is expected that these laws will be approved by the Government before the end of the year and subsequently processed in Parliament for final approval.
