The Sala Daura hosts a unique exhibition

Until June 30, the Sala Daura of the Montserrat Museum presents a fascinating exhibition under the title Donations 2012-2022. This exhibition, curated by Sílvia Muñoz d’Imbert and Santi Barjau, has a hundred works from collectors who have taken care of them for long periods. In addition, it includes pieces by contemporary artists who have been related to the museum’s rooms and who have decided to donate some of their works to Montserrat. You can also find donations of works from other cultures, from Eastern to African, which enrich the collections with a universal spirit.

The artistic diversity in the show

The exhibition offers a variety of works that embrace different artistic currents and eras. The pieces are divided into three thematic areas, each of them broadly interpreting the artistic genre: the religious area, the focus on the figure and the portrait, and that of the landscape. These areas are designed in such a way that the historical works dialogue with the contemporary ones, offering a contrasting and enriching view of both the message and the artistic aesthetics.

A dialogue between eras and styles

The exhibition highlights the dialogue between older and contemporary works. Pieces such as the Gothic altarpiece by Pere Vall and the baroque Santa Anna by Ramon Amadeu stand out, as well as the works of artists such as Obiols i Pruna, Estrany, Marlet, and other representatives of modern religious art of the 20th century. Contemporary pieces by different artists serve to reinforce this artistic conversation, highlighting religious iconography and artistic language as a vehicle of transcendence.

The representation of the human figure and the landscape

The exhibition also offers a careful representation of the human figure through portraits and sculptural works. In addition, it brings together the work of historical landscape architects and contrasts it with the contemporary creation of visually striking spaces. This diversity of approaches offers an enriching experience for visitors, showing the evolution of artistic representations over time.

Recognition of donations and donors

Through this exhibition, the Museum of Montserrat recognizes the generosity of donors and the importance of the donations received over the past decades. This gratitude is addressed to all those who have entrusted their most precious possessions to the museum, contributing to its cultural enrichment. In addition, the exhibition also represents a tribute to the figure of Fr. Josep de C. Laplana, highlighting his essential work in the management of the institution for years.
