An Innovative Partnership

The Gremio de Vinyataires Lliures stands out as the first association of independent winegrowers and artisans in Catalonia. This group, made up of around seventy Catalan wineries, has the main objective of giving a voice to small wine producers who operate outside the industry. Its ambitious approach and clear objectives seek to transform the country’s wine panorama.

Independent Artisans

The Vinyataires Lliures represent small wine producers who have decided to join forces in a sector where they do not feel represented. Nearly 70 wineries from all over Catalonia, which constitute approximately 10% of the total number of wineries in the country, have joined together with the purpose of achieving a series of goals related to the prestige and development of their activity.

Demands and Challenges

The union is looking for the possibility of labeling wine bottles with the place names of the municipalities where the wine is produced, a logical action that the regulations of the Denominations of Origin do not allow. In addition, they request a reduction in bureaucracy, the recognition of the figure of the wine artisan and the possibility of obtaining certifications for wineries that are not part of any Designation of Origin.

Commitment to Sustainability

Most of the wineries in the guild are dedicated to the production of organic and natural wine, reflecting the fundamental values of the group: sustainable, traditional and artisanal work in the vineyard. Respect for the territory and the preservation of traditions are aspects that deeply concern the members of the guild.

Perspectives and Collaborations

The Guild of Vinyataires Lliures, aware of the need for an effective change in current regulations, is part of the European Confederation of Independent Winegrowers (CEVI), a European association that advocates for similar objectives. In addition, a working group has been established with the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine (INCAVI), showing willingness to achieve significant progress.

A Lasting Commitment

This group of winegrowers raises their voice against institutional obstacles and strives to promote the use of local place names, give prestige to wine craftsmanship, and preserve traditions and work methods for future generations.
